I love to tutor. I am currently a community college writing tutor with seven years of experience tutoring in a campus Writing Center. My goal is to work with students throughout the entire writing process from initial planning, meeting assignment requirements, working through revisions, and finally helping them polish their writing for a finely-tuned finished product. I also work as a classroom Teaching Assistant for college English and composition classes. This involves working with students who need special help developing college level reading/writing skills. By helping students develop critical reading and writing skills, I help them acquire communication skills that will not only help them achieve academic success but also success in their chosen career. In addition to in-person tutoring, In addition, I have over three years of experience as an on-line tutor for state colleges and universities. Many students find on-line tutoring to be convenient and efficient, and I enjoy both tutoring on-line and in-person. I think it is important for tutors to continue to learn; I have attended several seminars including a workshop for ESL students, and classes in college-level ESL reading and writing. I also continue to attend training seminars offered by my employer. All of these classes and workshops give me insight into new ways to help students not only with writing and grammar, but also with real-life skills. In the words of Robert Frost, “I am not a teacher, but an awakener”. I hope for this awakening for each student I tutor. My goal is to motivate and inspire students to become independent learners who can smile at their own progress.
